A World Of Choices – Dog House Designs

Filed Under (Dogs) by Guest Author on 20-08-2010

There are a limitless amount of dog house designs available to dog owners. Hundreds of online blogs, design companies, and contractors have websites geared toward getting your dog in to their (or your) dream dog home. Most people will likely want to go for a simple and traditional dog house designs; while others may wish to follow modern celebrity trends and provide your pooch with an over-the-top designer dog house like a “Hacienda” or “Colonial” dog house design.

Indoor Dog Homes

People who live in condominiums or townhouses with little or no yard space also have options available. There are many top-notch, classy dog house designs that fit right in with the decor in your home. These can range from coffee and end tables that double as a quiet getaway for your dog, so custom built sofas or cupboards that allow your dog a place of their own to claim some privacy.

Outdoor Design Choices

You may not want to go with a basic traditional, or full-blown fancy designs: Perhaps a farmhouse, or barn-style doghouse would better compliment your property and buildings. Custom made, or ready-made solutions are available for a very affordable price, due to the competition among pet accessory manufacturers these days.

Most dog house designs come fully insulated with a variety of eye-catching elements like: mock chimneys, windows, self-retracting doors, etc. If you plan to make your own: Make sure you get a set of plans in front of you and/or have someone with building experience on hand for help. Just because a dog house isn’t as big as a house doesn’t mean the chance of making errors is smaller — A dog house is a house on a smaller scale, without plumbing or electricity (though some people include both in their dog house designs).

The best thing about modern design choices is that the choice will likely be the hardest part — there are so many design elements, materials and accessories that it’s best to set some time aside to make your choice.

Thoughts To Consider Before Selecting An Exotic Pet

Filed Under (Pets) by Guest Author on 22-07-2010

An exotic pet certainly seems to suit some people, and you may feel that it would be the ideal accessory to go with your designer labels and cosmopolitan lifestyle. Think it through before you rush out to find your exotic pet.

The term exotic pet refers to a broad classification of wild animals that are not typically found in most homes. They can include reptiles, rodents, birds, and other categories of animals. When you bring home an animal that was not bred for domestication, you are taking it from its natural, preferred environment.

Exotic pets are not domesticated, and they can be difficult to manage, no matter how stylish they look. In certain circumstances they can attack their owners, simply because they are out of their natural environment.

Feeding and Caring for your Exotic Pet

Do you know where to find the food your exotic pet eats? Or how much to feed it? Most wild animals catch and eat as much as they can in the wild to ensure survival. Overfeeding an exotic pet is unhealthy, and underfeeding it will add to the frustration and possible aggression of the animal. Consider also that many of them need live food – not always a pleasant task for the owner.

Your local veterinarian probably has little experience with exotic pets, who often have exotic illnesses. Finding a specialist who can treat a sick exotic pet may involve travel and considerable expense.

Do You Know the Laws Regarding Your Pet?

Depending upon the location that you reside, you may be breaking the law if you have an exotic pet in your home. Before making the investment, do some research regarding the law of exotic pet ownership in your area. You may need to purchase a special license or obtain a permit.

Some localities require that you keep your exotic pet within the confines of your property. If this is the case, make sure that you have installed secure enclosures to prevent the animal from escaping. Once they are out in the neighborhood, the unfamiliar surroundings can frighten them and provoke a normally timid animal to attack. Pet buyers must understand that exotic animal are made available to the public for one reason, there is a market for these animals. It is the demand that drives the business. As a wise man once said, “just because you can do something, doesn’t mean that you should.” Now apply that theory to the purchase of a new pet. You may have the ability to buy the animal, but is it wise?

My Review Of Online Grooming School

Filed Under (Cats) by Guest Author on 13-07-2010

Online Grooming School is a program that teaches people to become professional pet groomers from the comfort of their own homes, using a video based course.

So, this sounds like a great idea in concept, especially if you simply aren’t able to visit a pet grooming school in person. But the important question that needs answering is: does it actually work?

Well, at first I was very skeptical that this course could deliver what it promised. Still, I purchased the course. The main reason for this was that I wanted to save money on dog grooming, and I knew it was something that I was capable of doing by myself.

Also, I knew that Online Grooming School was much less expensive than traditional grooming schools, and my closest bricks and mortar school was over one hundred miles away from my home. I have a very busy life and have young children, so I don’t have the time to travel so far to attend classes.

There was another excellent reason I had for purchasing. Quite simply, this was the guarantee. There is a complete 100% money back guarantee offered by Online Grooming School, so if you’re not completely satisfied with the course you can get all your money back. That was a huge plus for me!

What did I learn from the course? Surprisingly, I learned pretty much everything that it’s possible to learn in a pet grooming course. The videos were of fantastic quality, and were surprisingly easy to follow. I had somehow imagined that video based learning would be difficult but I was wrong. Not only that, but you can naturally watch the videos over and over, and rewind if you miss anything. I actually think this makes the course a little better than one undertaken in a classroom where you can’t get things repeated over and over, and go back to them days or weeks later.

I first purchased Online Grooming School to learn how to groom my own pet dogs, but I soon realized that I loved pet grooming and saw it as an opportunity for me to start my own business. The timing was right for me to start a business, as my youngest child had just started school, and I wanted to earn extra income, but I also wanted to be able to fit my career around my kids’ schedules. It was really simple becoming professionally certified with the Online Grooming School program, and I was able to get heaps of practice, as friends, relatives and neighbors were only too happy to get their pets groomed for free.

So as far as it goes, I wholeheartedly recommend Online Grooming School for those who want to become pet groomers but who either can’t afford traditional classes, or who would rather learn from home.

Dog Pain Killers Review

Filed Under (Pets) by Guest Author on 06-05-2010

When your pet requires dog painkillers, the options are quite various. Nevertheless some types of analgesic for dogs could cause harm, particularly if they’re not used as they deserve to be. If your dog has prolonged or acute discomfort, you can work with your vet to find the best medicines to relieve the discomfort your dog experiences. Some of the different sorts of analgesic products for dogs are :

Narcotics- these types of analgesic products for dogs have been used for years, and each works different at reducing pain, and also each has their own inclination for dependence. Since animals can go thru withdrawals like humans do, it is really important to wean dogs off medicines for agony that are drugs. Frequently drugs will be mingled with another kind of discomfort reliever to enable it to work much better than either one would by themselves.

Morphine is a drug that most everybody has heard all about before. For pets that need dog painkillers for harsh discomfort, morphine is a superb choice, though it has got to be given quite frequently, and there’s a robust likelihood of dependence. Morphine is also a sedative, and could cause many animals to become sick and puke.

In nations aside from the U.S, one well-liked pain reliever for dogs is pethidine, although it is not used much in the United States. Some studies suggest that it only gives about one to two hours of pain relief in animals, but works better when used along with NSAIDS.

Hydrocodone and Codeine are often use when needing dog painkillers, and even though they aren’t as strong as morphine, they often work well when added with other medications like ibuprofen. Butorphanol is another common drug for pain relief, but is has very limited effectiveness for animals that suffer from pain that is chronic, since raising the dosage usually diminishes the effects of the medication instead of adding to its benefits. A medication that has not been approved for use in dogs is Buprenorphine, although it is still used frequently. It lasts longer for pain than butorphanol, which is why it is gaining popularity.

Another often used dog pain killer is fentanyl, which usually comes in the form of a patch that is placed on the animal, and slowly dispenses medication through skin absorption. It takes about 12 hours for the medication to work, and care must be taken that the animal doesn’t ingest the patch, as this can cause the animal to go into a coma or can die since it is too much medication at one time. The patch is usually kept on for three days, and then removed and another patch is put on. Often dogs that use this form of pain reliever have to supplement it along with NSAIDS or a narcotic that is compatible.

The choices for dog pain killers are staggering, but when you know the type and amount of pain you pet is suffering from, your vet will be able to prescribe the right medication to stop his pain, and allow him to live a normal life.

Potty Training Puppies – Simple Techniques

Filed Under (Dogs) by Guest Author on 13-02-2010

We all know that you do not actually use a potty when you are potty training puppies. Once you understand that you dog will not make use of a potty or a toilet, you can learn about how and where to train them to do their business.

One thing you have to understand is that there are many different breeds and types of dogs. Understanding that some dogs learn how to potty train quicker than other dogs will make the whole process run smoother. This is why it is recommended that you do your research before you go out to buy a pup. Make sure that you are able to handle a certain breed of dog, and that you have the patience to train the dog.

Before you get going with the training of your dog, you want to make take note of a very important factor. It is that you should never get upset with your dog in the training process. Dogs are somewhat like children, if you get upset with them, they will think that they are doing something wrong. This will make the process a bit more difficult.

The First Step – You want to make sure that the dog is on a good schedule. So make up a good daily routine that you will follow. This includes your routine, the time you wake up, the time you go to be bed, the time you eat and so forth. The last thing you want is your doggy getting too confused. If you keep a good routine, the dog will soon catch on and will start running to your routine. Most of the time a dog will get so used to your routine, that you will not even need an alarm clock any more. You will however wake up with a wet face!

Secondly – Accidents happen, so it is better if you keep your dog in a place where he cannot do too much damage to carpets or rugs. The best place for a dog in the training process is always in a tiled room.

Step three – Decide whether you want your puppy to do its business inside or outside. Many people opt for outside, as that just seems like a natural thing to do. However, if you feel that you do not want your puppy getting too cold, a specified place inside a bathroom is a good start. Also, you want to make sure that whenever the puppy does its business, it is in that one area only. You will have to be with it initially to make sure this happens.

Lastly – The dog will be a bit uncomfortable at first, but it will happen. He will need some time to get used to the spot, and get used to your standing there with him as he does his business. This is a good training method, because he will then be comfortable doing his business in a park. Just make sure you take a poop-scoop with you.

Always Remember – If the dog does nothing for the first few times of taking him or her to the “toilet spot”, do not play with him. You want to make it known that going to the toilet is important. So, if it does not happen, take him back inside and confine him to his sleeping area.
